“There has been a lot of talk about smart meters by power companies and how their introduction could help consumers and the society. We have taken that one step ahead and this technology will give consumers more control over power management,” Senztek CEO Brian Knolles told Business to Business.
“The plug-in device of this power management tool will be able to talk to various devices wirelessly, measure the data and send it to the consumer or the power company, as desired,” Mr Knolles said.
“Using this technology, it will be possible to switch off the devices that are not required during the day or night, rather than having them sitting on stand-by, which continuously draws power resulting in wastage. Smart appliances might be some years away, but as of now this device will give control to consumers to manage power consumption,” he added.
Senztek specialises in design and manufacture of Intelligent Measurement Technology. Working in the related research industry for about 20 years, the company’s smart power management technology of hot water systems is already available in the market.
“A tremendous amount of R&D has gone into this product, and its price will be determined by that and what the market is ready to pay. Obviously, it has to represent value to New Zealanders, as it’s supposed to be a product of mass usage,” Mr Knolles commented.
“We’re showcasing this technology for companies to package it and market it to suit the industry requirements. We will be happy to work with appliance manufacturers or even may end up partnering with smart meter companies to maximise the benefits of this technology.”
A product of more than three years of research and development, Senztek plans to offer this piece of innovation to the market next month at the Power and Electricity World conference in Auckland; and later be offered to offshore markets.
