Butch Mawdsley is the director of accounting firm RES Group and its business development division, 10X North Shore.
Butch Mawdsley.
Business to Business
- What inspired you to start up your business?
Butch Mawdsley
- I wanted to create a business which would be the Chartered Accounting firm of choice on the North Shore.
BtoB
- Who has influenced you the most professionally?
BM
- During my career many people have influenced me, however, in recent times Rob Nixon stands out as a Kiwi who has made a real difference to Chartered Accountants both in New Zealand and Australia.
BtoB
- How would you describe yourself as a businessman?
BM
- My training as a Chartered Accountant has given me an ability to quickly assess the big picture. This combined with a competitive spirit has provided me with a burning desire to build a business based on sound business practice whilst minimising my risk.
BtoB
- What do you consider your greatest achievement?
BM
- Signing up with 10X. This has forced me out of my comfort zone and created opportunities for my own development, which has assisted me in my quest to help business owners achieve their dreams.
BtoB
- With hindsight, what is the one thing you would do differently?
BM
- I would have spent more time researching my target market to make sure we were working with like-minded business owners and team members.
BtoB
- Who do you find inspirational and why?
BM
- Nic Clark of 10X Global because he has been able to adapt himself so that he has grown as a leader who is able to motivate people to optimise results.
BtoB
- What is the most inspirational book you have read recently?
BM
- Building the Happiness-Centred Business by Dr Paddi Lund.
BtoB
- What is your favourite website and why?
BM
- www.resgroup.co.nz because this is our very own window to the business community where we are able to express the characteristics to which we subscribe.
BtoB
-What is the first thing you would do if you became Prime Minister?
BM
- I would immediately incentivise the building of houses to increase the supply which would bring the price down and add a huge amount to GDP.
BtoB
- What is the best thing about being in business?
BM
- Being in a position to positively influence the outcome for both my company and those we assist.
