I have a raft of relevant qualifications including a Masters in Clothing and textiles, a Diploma in Speech and Drama from Trinity College in London and an Associate Membership to the Association of Image Consultants International - but all the qualifications in the world cannot give you that ‘eye’ that lets you see in an instant what looks good on a person, and what doesn’t.
I am self employed and have a purpose fitted studio that allows me to work within the constraints of my family life, which with four children, can be quite hectic!
A stylists’ day is varied and can consist of working with clients to determine their skin undertones, taking them shopping, giving an image presentation to corporates, styling for a photo shoot or working on company uniforms from initial set up right through to the written guidelines.
Each client has totally different requirements, which makes my job exciting, challenging, and rewarding. Some don’t have a defined style, find it hard to pull together appropriate outfits for their lifestyle or they don’t know how to dress to flatter their shape. Whatever your issue might be, investing in a session with a personal stylist can help them avoid making the same mistakes over and over again, thereby setting you on a path to a more fulfilling relationship with their closets!
The key quality to being a good stylist is a passion for fashion, natural creative flair, and the ability to relate to people and be able to translate what they say into a visual reality. Being positive at all times is essential, you need to have an interest in working with people from all walks of life and gain satisfaction from helping make a difference to their lives.
