“Inter City Urgent has implemented a simple-to-use, yet sophisticated GPS tracking system for client identification of shipped goods throughout New Zealand,” and “Using state-of-the-art technology, Intercity has created a near real-time dispatch and fleet management system to provide more accurate and real time information to their clients.” were just some of the judge’s comments. “We were thrilled to win both the Technology and the Innovation categories as they enhance our reputation for forward thinking, innovative transport solutions. It has been great to be involved with the awards and thoroughly recommend them as a way to showcase your business to the North Shore community,” managing director Nick Kershaw told Business to Business.

Auckland’s premier urgent courier service, North Harbour-based Inter City Urgent provides everything from 15-minute urgent deliveries to four-hour large freight jobs for items from one envelope to five tonnes of goods. The company won last year’s service delivery category, and was a finalist in the innovation category.

Mr Kershaw said Inter City Urgent will transport everything – from poker tables, medical supplies and documents to sound equipment, gourmet hampers and hazardous chemicals.

“Our comprehensive fleet of cars, vans and trucks are on-call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, offering local, national and international delivery services to the Auckland market.  Since our formation in 1996, we have experienced significant growth - averaging 14% per year. This has been on the back of our commitment to delivering exceptional levels of service in everything we do and by securing fantastic customer loyalty in an industry not known for it.”

There are several things Inter City Urgent does to stand out from its competitors including  offering a personal service, with no automated answer machines or holding queues.  “Customers get a knowledgeable, friendly person to help them every time and within three rings.,” Mr Kershaw said. “We offer a wider range of delivery solutions than anyone else in the market, and our technology allows us to manage every delivery individually, ensuring you get the best service possible every time. We have entered the Westpac Enterprise North Shore Business Excellence Awards this year to acknowledge the outstanding contribution our staff has made to the company’s success. This is a people industry and we have a fantastic team.”.

Enterprise North Shore chief executive Terry Hoskins said it was extremely satisfying to see first-time winners come back for more – and then scoop the pool again.

“This is exactly what the business excellence awards are all about, achieving excellence, being recognised for it and then striving for more. We congratulate Inter City Urgent on its successes in 2007 and 2008, and hope it will be part of the awards again next year.”
