  • The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) today issued a draft decision denying authorisation for Virgin Blue and Air New Zealand’s application to operate an alliance on Trans-Tasman services. Air New Zealand is currently reviewing the draft decision and expects to respond to the ACCC’s concerns once they are identified. This will occur over the coming weeks.

  • Overnight stays in hotels were up 4 percent in July 2010 compared with the previous July, Statistics New Zealand said today. "Hotels were the only accommodation type to record an increase," business statistics manager Louise Holmes-Oliver said. Guest nights were down in motels, backpackers, and holiday parks, which each had a decrease of 2 percent. International guest nights were up 2 percent in July 2010 compared with July 2009, while domestic guest nights were down 1 percent. As a result, total guest nights in July 2010 were similar to July 2009, up just 0.2 percent.

  • Air New Zealand’s new all black A320 aircraft is nearing completion and in a few weeks will make the journey to New Zealand to join the airline’s domestic jet fleet. The aircraft with its newly painted all black livery, recently flew from Airbus’ manufacturing facility in Toulouse, France, to Hamburg, Germany where cabin interior fit-out is now nearing completion. The aircraft is the first of Air New Zealand’s new domestic Airbus A320 jet fleet and is the only aircraft in the airline’s fleet to be painted with an exclusive black livery.

  • Air New Zealand and Virgin Atlantic have signed a code sharing agreement offering more flexibility and choice on routings between the UK and New Zealand for both carriers’ passengers. This code share agreement follows a long history of interline cooperation, including a reciprocal Frequent Flyer Partnership between the two airlines, with passengers already travelling on routes between the UK and New Zealand on each others’ services.
