  • The restaurant business is constantly evolving. Emerging chefs, exciting menus and new players that come and go with the tide.   In Auckland the restaurant scene is as diverse and sophisticated as any in the world yet despite New Zealand being a world leader in food production the standard of cuisine from many of the restaurants that we reviewed during the year was something of a hit-and-miss affair.

Taking its inspiration from Northern Italy’s Piedmont region, the famed home of the international slow food movement and a region regarded by many as Italy’s greatest food region, Piedmont is currently enjoying a gastronomic renaissance and Barolo restaurant is a true slice of this foodie wonderland.

  • Who said hotel food is boring and stereo typical?  In 30 years of reviewing restaurants we have been quite remiss with respect to the hotel fraternity, so last year we made a point to review a wide selection without neglecting conventional eateries. While a few failed to make any impression we were nevertheless inspired by the overall standard of cuisine and our dining experiences. This is reflected in the best of the best for the year.

  • Auckland’s restaurants are alive and well and like Aucklanders themselves are as diverse and sophisticated as anywhere in the world. Last year we dined at some of Auckland’s most celebrated establishments and for devoted foodies that still get a buzz about eating great food it’s fabulous to see so many new additions to Auckland’s dining out scene.
