A 70 strong Chinese delegation arrives in Queenstown next week as New Zealand welcomes the inaugural flight of China Southern Airlines.
A special early morning flight from Auckland will deliver airline VIP’s, top Chinese media and representatives from Chinese outbound tourism organizations to Queenstown on Tuesday (12 April).
Air New Zealand and the Queenstown Community Strategic Assets Group Inc have today withdrawn their cases against Auckland International Airport Limited over its shareholding in Queenstown Airport (QAC).
“It has become clear as we prepared for the case that this would be a long and expensive battle which could cost several million dollars for all involved, including the Queenstown community, which would have long term disadvantage for everyone,” said Air New Zealand Deputy CEO Norm Thompson.

Jetstar is equipping its fleet of A320 and A321 aircraft with the latest satellite-linked landing and navigation system after a New Zealand trial showed a marked improvement in safety and on-time performance.
The year-long trial at Queenstown Airport made it possible for flights to operate through most of the peak winter ski season.
Queenstown Airport last night (June 26) announced it was removing the $25 International DepartureFee effective immediately. The change is part of Queenstown Airport’s new landing charges cominginto effect on 1 July.
“Paying a fee on departing Queenstown has long been a frustrating imposition on internationalpassengers. Removing the fee will greatly improve the experience international passengers havewhen leaving the airport,” said Mr Scott Paterson, Chief Executive Officer, Queenstown Airport.
