Ten Questions in Ten Minutes: With Jemma Traill

Jemma Traill is director of Alpha Studio, a full graphic design and website design studio delivering creative solutions for businesses.

Business to Business - What inspired you to start up your business?
Jemma Traill - I have a passion for design excellence, helping business owners promote their company, and I wanted to branch out on my own. Also my sons were my inspiration too, as I wanted to be there for them when they needed me. 

BtoB - Who has influenced you the most professionally?
JM - Other designers, there are some amazing designers out there. I’m consistently reading books, magazines and searching the websites for the latest in design.

BtoB - How would you describe yourself as a businessman?
JM
- A multi-tasker with a well organised list of creative things to do.

BtoB - What do you consider your greatest achievement?
JM - Graduating with a Bachelor Design in Visual Communication Design.

BtoB - With hindsight, what is the one thing you would do differently?
JM - I don’t have any regrets; I love my job it’s something new every day.

BtoB - Who do you find inspirational and why?
JM - I find a lot of people inspirational, but lately I can’t get enough of artist and illustrator Misery, aka Tanya Thompson. She has some amazing work.

BtoB - What is the most inspirational book you have read recently?
JM - Bulletproof Web Design by Dan Cederholm. Dan Cederholm is a web designer and author living in Salem, Massachusetts. He’s the founder and principal of SimpleBits, LLC, a tiny web design studio.

BtoB - What is your favourite website and why?
JM - The Christchurch Art Gallery - it’s very user friendly, interactive and consistently at that high level throughout the design.

BtoB - What is the first thing you would do if you became Prime Minister?
JM - Organise a trip to met the Queen.

BtoB - What is the best thing about being in business?
JM - Meeting business owners that are passionate about their business and helping them to achieve their goals.
