Medical director of Mercy Breast Clinic, David Benson-Cooper, shares his ‘prescription’ for ‘clinical’ performances in the healthcare sector.
Business to Business - What inspired you to start up the clinic?
David Benson-Cooper - We wanted to create a beautiful clinic which was non-medical in style and so we could provide excellent care for our patients.
BtoB - Who has influenced you the most professionally?
DBC - Two radiologists from Napier - Jim Vaughan and Morris Nathan. They were most kind and helpful to me as a young house surgeon and they were instrumental in deciding my career.
BtoB - How would you describe yourself as a businessperson?
DBC - People are the most important asset in a business so I look after the people around me and I help others whenever I can.
BtoB - What do you consider your greatest achievement?
DBC - Learning to listen carefully to others has been immensely important. I like working in a team and our projects have been successful at Mercy Hospital because of this.
BtoB - With hindsight, what is the one thing you would do differently?
DBC - I would travel more than I have as great ideas come from visiting others.
